New Zealand artist Paul Shipper brings Zack Snyder's vision of the Superman to life in this stunning take of the upcoming film.

We have earlier witnessed the brilliance of Paul Shipper with the British artist's involvement with both The Print Posse to rejuvenate the stale state of any noteworthy graphic presentation for Star Trek Into Darkness with their unofficial posters as well as the cool Walt Disney piece in Hero Complex Gallery’s Oscar Legends Show. Contributing to Hero Complex Gallery’s recent show, Arch Nemesis, the artist has done it again.

Taking on Man of Steel, the much-anticipated film directed by Zack Snyder with an ambitious new take on the original superhero icon himself, Superman, Paul Shipper brought his A-game into this stunning new print. Hit the jump to check out the piece as well as the artist's insight on the print.

From the words of the artist himself:

A daunting prospect for me was figuring out how to tackle this. I knew I really wanted to do a film poster style illustration featuring the new Superman, but figuring out how to go about it, the designing of the poster layout...

Something about Superman and the awesome legacy that we all know and love makes it hard to touch and I have to say, Zack Snyder, Christopher Nolan, and Hans Zimmer, scoring the movie, along with everyone on the production, they all deserve massive credit from what I have seen and heard so far. They honour the Characters, the Story, the Legacy with a new spin and look that is quite different but I have totally bought into it. And so, I really wanted to try and give this poster art a feel of the new film but a different look and an alternative to the photographic posters that are being used to promote the film.

I thought about it for a long while, toying with so many ideas, that just didnt cut it - was I trying to be too clever...? then it hit me. It's the Man Of Steel...! I need Superman, front and centre, looking hard as... 'Steel'... and that was the best place for me to start.

I really wanted to show Superman's heritage, a little of where he came from, his birth Parents on Krypton and also his relationship with his Father on Earth - these are the foundations of who Superman or Kal-El is and grows to become. It was important for me to have it in there. Scouring the internet for reference material, there actually wasn't that much to my surprise, so I did the best with what I could. I can not wait for this movie, the trailer is possibly one of the greatest ever created... Bring on the Man of Steel!!

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe, Man of Steel is currently scheduled to be released in 2D, 3D and IMAX on June 14, 2013.
