Birdman: First Look

It's a Bird? It's Batman? It's Alejandro González Iñárritu's upcoming comedy, Birdman, featuring former Batman Michael Keaton, and Birdman, a fictional though iconic superhero in the film.

Actor Michael Keaton is well-known for his performance in diverse roles from Tim Burton's Beetlejuice to the TLC-quoting Captain Gene Mauch in Adam McKay's The Other Guy. However, there is without a shadow of a doubt that he is most famous for his turn as Batman, in Tim Burton's Batman and Batman Returns.

In Birdman, the upcoming comedy directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the Mexican film-maker that brought us acclaimed films like 21 Grams and Babel, Keaton is a former actor who is famous for his portrayal of an iconic superhero (the eponymous Birdman) and is now struggling to mount a Broadway play based on Raymond Carver's What We Talk About When We Talk About Love. Featuring a star-studded cast from Edward Norton, Naomi Watts, Emma Stone, Zach Galifianakis, to Andrea Riseborough, if the comedy serves to be a sharp parody on the superhero trend in cinema these days, this is something we can't miss.

Courtesy of Daily Mail, here are some of the leaked set images featuring a down-and-out Keaton and behind him, the titular Birdman with a surprisingly well-made costume.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

BIRDMAN or The Unexpected Virtue Of Ignorance is a black comedy that tells the story of an actor (Keaton) – famous for portraying an iconic superhero – as he struggles to mount a Broadway play.  In the days leading up to opening night, he battles his ego and attempts to recover his family, his career, and himself.
