Man of Steel: Final Preview

Posted by Grey Thursday, June 13, 2013

It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman! At least we are pretty certain that will be what everyone will be talking about with Zack Snyder's Man of Steel finally hitting the big screens. The Daily Zombies takes a Final Look at what has become our most anticipated film of the year

Here at The Daily Zombies, our long-standing coverage for Man of Steel has been one of our more prominent features for the past two years. From our First Look back in 2009, unveiling of the official logo, the Panel in San Diego Comic-Con back in 2012, simultaneous release of the two teaser trailers, posters, the moving full theatrical trailer, the awe-inspiring third trailer, to the recent swashbuckling fourth trailer, our keen interest has evolved further into a febrile anticipation by now.

And come tomorrow, the wait is over.

The tumultuous (I might add, not as tumultuous as Bryan Singer' Superman Returns) development and production process for Man of Steel has been well-documented. By now, the origins behind the film had become well-known with how writer David Goyer pitched the story concept to Christopher Nolan on a night when both of them are working through a rough patch of The Dark Knight Rises (the third act, if I remembered correctly, given the nature of that particular act). While news of Zack Snyder joining the film as a director was not meet with particularly positive reactions from the online community (having dealt with the "Sucker Punch" given the quality of his previous film), the rejuvenation of the original Superhero in this age of Superhero films dominated by the unstoppable Marvel Cinematic Universe is something that got everyone's attention. This is particularly so with the failure of Green Lantern and the hope of a cinematic Justice League carried by Snyder's efforts here.

Fortunately, based on what we have seen thus far, the future of a DC Cinematic Universe appeared to be in bloom. The trailers of the film have generated the vibe that imposed a sense of overwrought grittiness meant to resonate producer Christopher Nolan and Snyder's intention for the film to set in reality. The first-ever overhaul reboot of the cinematic adventures of the most iconic superhero that started them all will at least look good if all else fails.

With that, this is our final message to all fans of Superman, casual comic readers, generic movie-goers, and all mankind: You are not alone. Man of Steel is indeed one of the most intriguing films of the year and with the involvement of Nolan and Goyer, the team that brought us easily one of the best cinematic trilogies ever in Superman's best pal, Batman, we are quite certain Man of Steel is shaping up to be one of the most enticing cinematic experiences in 2013.

With that out of the way, here's the final trailer courtesy of Nokia.

One of the most enticing features that we noticed from the trailers would be the moving score from regular Nolan collaborator, Hans Zimmer. You can check out the below embedded clip for "What Are You Going to Do When You Are Not Saving the World?", AKA the main theme of the film or head over to this YouTube link to listen to the entire soundtrack.

And here are the recently-released character posters.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Cavill) is a young twentysomething journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond anyone's imagination. Transported to Earth years ago from Krypton, an advanced alien planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question - Why am I here? Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Costner), Clark soon discovers that having super abilities means making very difficult decisions. But when the world needs stability the most, it comes under attack. Will his abilities be used to maintain peace or ultimately used to divide and conquer? Clark must become the hero known as "Superman," not only to shine as the world's last beacon of hope but to protect the ones he loves.

Starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe, Man of Steel is currently scheduled to be released in 2D, 3D and IMAX on June 14, 2013.
