Prisoners: First Look

Posted by Grey Wednesday, June 5, 2013

When the law fails him, Hugh Jackman is forced to take matters into his own hands as... not The Wolverine, but an average working class father of a little girl in peril in the upcoming thriller, Prisoners.

The acting range of Australian actor Hugh Jackman has been particularly well-known by now given the prolific actor's incredible body of work of late. While there is no doubt that The Wolverine will be the actor's most high profile film this year, another upcoming film featuring Jackman has caught our eyes.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve, the Canadian film-maker who brought us the acclaimed 2010 thriller, Incendies, Prisoners tells the haunting tale of a small-town carpenter (Hugh Jackman) whose daughter went missing and the only clue is a man whom the law is unable to push (Paul Dano). Butting head against a brash young detective (Jake Gyllenhaal), the father is forced to take matters into his own hands in order to ensure the safe return of his daughter if she is still alive.

Hit the jump to check out the haunting trailer of what is definitely a depiction of the most terrifying nightmare a parent can imagine.

Posters released for the film thus far.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

From Alcon Entertainment comes "Prisoners," a Warner Bros. Pictures' release starring Oscar® nominees Hugh Jackman ("Les Misérables") and Jake Gyllenhaal ("Brokeback Mountain"), under the direction of Denis Villeneuve, who helmed the Oscar®-nominated foreign language film "Incendies."

How far would you go to protect your child? Keller Dover (Jackman) is facing every parent's worst nightmare. His six-year-old daughter, Anna, is missing, together with her young friend, Joy, and as minutes turn to hours, panic sets in. The only lead is a dilapidated RV that had earlier been parked on their street. Heading the investigation, Detective Loki (Gyllenhaal) arrests its driver, Alex Jones (Paul Dano), but a lack of evidence forces the only suspect's release.

Knowing his child's life is at stake, the frantic Dover decides he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands. The desperate father will do whatever it takes to find the girls, but in doing so, he may lose himself, begging the question: When do you cross the line between seeking justice and becoming a vigilante?

Set to be released on September 20th, Prisoners also stars Maria BelloTerrence Howard, and Viola Davis
