The Lego Movie: First Look

Posted by Grey Wednesday, June 19, 2013

Forget Warner Bros. Pictures' Justice League. Brace yourself for the biggest movie ever assembled when Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman join forces with Michaelangelo (the High Renaissance Artist), Michelangelo (the nunchucks-wielding Ninja Turtle) and an infinite number of other Lego characters in The Lego Movie.

For those feverishly awaiting for the much-talked-about arrival of a DC Cinematic Universe (don't look it up. We coined that one after Marvel Cinematic Universe), chances are that we are unable to witness the release of the Justice League film despite the recent success of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. To point out the obvious, there isn't even a gameplan on how the cinematic universe can be structured. For those longing for the big screen assembly of DC's Trinity of iconic superheroes (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman), you might just get what you want with The Lego Movie.

A computer-generated animated film directed by writer/director duo of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who previous efforts were the 2009 animated film Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and last year's 21 Jump Street), The Lego Movie is set to be a satirical epic action-adventure that will utilize the particular sense of humor developed for the Lego mini-figures' recent outings in numerous animation and video games. Based on the astounding first teaser trailer recently released by Warner Bros. Pictures, we are in for one hell of a hilarious ride through pop culture with this one.

Hit the jump to check out the first teaser trailer, complete with an excellent appearance by the Dark Knight himself (a winning portrayal by Will Arnett).

And here's the international trailer with some new footage.

The first poster for the animated film.

Here’s the official synopsis for the animated film:

The 3D computer animated adventure tells the story of Emmet, an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average LEGO minifigure who is mistakenly identified as the most extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly and hilariously underprepared.

Starring Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, Morgan Freeman, Elizabeth Banks, Liam Neeson, Nick Offerman, and Alison Brie, The LEGO Movie is set to open in 3D on February 7, 2014.
