The Wind Rises: First Look

Posted by Grey Wednesday, June 26, 2013

Master animator Hayao Miyazaki returns from a five-year hiatus with The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu), an upcoming animated film focusing on the fictionalized story of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Zero Fighter used in World War II.

In The Wind Rises (Kaze Tachinu), Studio Ghibli's latest offering set to open in Japan on July 20th, legendary animation master Hayao Miyazaki makes his much-anticipated return since 2008's Ponyo to take on what would potentially be perceived as a controversial subject: the story of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the Mitsubishi A6M Zero fighter aircraft that famously served in World War II. Granted that the story is based on Miyazaki's own manga that was loosely based on Tatsuo Hori's short novel during the 30s, it is interesting to see the animation legend's take on a protagonist whose ties with war is a defining feature.

And here are the posters released thus far.
