Godzilla: First Look - Undead Monday - SDCC 2013

Posted by The Daily Zombies Monday, July 22, 2013

This Undead Monday, we have a First Look at the return of arguably the greatest monsters of them all (and the greatest Kaiju ever) in cinema: Godzilla, in the hands of British film-maker Gareth Edwards and Legendary Pictures.

At the recently-ended Comic-Con, we saw the unveiling of numerous projects that are destined to grab everybody's attentions from the get go. Legendary Pictures and British film-maker Gareth Edwards' upcoming retelling of the greatest Kaiju ever, Godzilla, isn't exactly one of them. Which all but explains the excellent work that Legendary Pictures have achieve with their panel at the Comic-Con.

From an exceptionally done Godzilla Encounter set up near the Comic-Con where visitors are treated with a genuine Ramen Bar along the street that resemble Tokyo more than anywhere else, the experience soon turned dire with the abrupt announcement that America is under attack and visitors are soon rushed into evacuation complete with a sneak glimpse at Godzilla himself. Head over to Collider to check out the amazing set-up by Legendary Pictures.

During the Hall H panel, director Gareth Edwards confirmed the presence of several other great Kaiju that are set to appear in the film as well, confirming our belief that the upcoming 2014 film is as far away as possible from the 1998 fiasco that soiled the name of the greatest Kaiju. Just in time to coincide with the panel at Comic-Con, Legendary Pictures has released the first poster of the film, giving us a sense of how enormous Godzilla will be in the new film.

In collaboration with Mondo, the collectible art division of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, Phantom City Creative has conjured a cool poster exclusively available at the Mondo booth during the event.

Hit the jump to check out both versions of the piece.

And here's a concept art courtesy from the folks at Skreeonk.

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, and Richard T. Jones,   Godzilla is currently scheduled to open in 3D on May 16, 2014.
