Machete Kills: First Trailer & New Posters

Posted by Grey Sunday, July 7, 2013

With Robert Rodriguez's Machete Kills hitting the big screens in months, Open Road Films has released the first trailer as well as a series of character posters for the star-studded action film. The Daily Zombies takes a look at the sequel to Rodriguez's 2010 ultra-violent action exploitation film

We have last covered Machete Kills around this time last year with a first look at Robert Rodriguez's sequel to his  2010 ultra-violent action exploitation film, Machete thanks to returning actress Jessica Alba‘s Twitter feed. Since then, we have been regularly bombarded by the stunt-casting typical of Rodriguez's usual Modus Operandi. From the announcement of casting news like Charlie Sheen (credited in his original name of Carlos Estévez) as the President of the United States, Mel Gibson as the insane Bond villian archetype, Luther Voz, Sofía Vergara as the Woman with the Gun-Rack, Madame Desdemona (you will see why), to Lady Gaga's turn as La Chameleón, we can see a trend where this is all going. The peculiar path but nonetheless a fitting one for the eccentric film-maker set for one hell of an eccentric movie.

Based on the promotional campaign that has recently intensified, we can already sensed how little has changed from the first film as Machete is immediately launched into some batshit crazy action with this one.

With no further ado, hit the jump to check out the balls-to-the-wall trailer to the film that, if anything else, should be fun.

A montage of the character shot that we managed to salvaged online. You have to agree these are pretty nifty stuffs.

Here are some of the official images released thus far.

First up, Alexa Vega, AKA the elder sister in Rodriguez's Spy Kid films, demonstrate the trail of time in her role as "Killjoy", a character she describes as a "bodyguard of a whorehouse".

Joining the stacked cast is Amber Heard as Miss San Antonio.

Next up, we look at the posters released thus far.

Lady Gaga as La Chameleón.

An alternate take of the same image.

Michelle Rodriguez returns as Luz / Shé, the one-eyed kick-ass machine.

Perhaps the highlight of the whole poster series would be the aforementioned "Woman with the Gun-Rack", Sofia Vergara, guns-a-blazing (from the tits) in these two posters.

Last, but impossible to be the least is Charlie Sheen (credited in his original name of Carlos Estévez) as the President of the United States. Man, from Olympus Has Fallen, White House Down, to Machete Kills, the President of the United States is having one hell of a year at the cinemas.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

The second film in the Machete trilogy finds Machete mourning the loss of his beloved Sartana, slain during a run in with the cartels. Machete is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man. Machete must battle his way through Mexico to take down a cartel leader, Mendez the Madman, who threatens to fire a missile on the US. Machete foils Mendez's plot only to find that the missiles are remote wired to and triggered by the madman’s still beating heart. The only man who can disarm the missile is eccentric billionaire arms dealer, Luther Voz, who has hatched a plan of his own to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. Machete takes on Voz and his army in order dismantle his master plan for global anarchy.

And from the official press release, a more subtle synopsis:

Open Road Films will release MACHETE KILLS – directed by Robert Rodriguez (Machete, Sin City, Spy Kids franchise) and starring Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Sofia Vergara, Amber Heard, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Demián Bichir, Alexa Vega, Vanessa Hudgens, Cuba Gooding, Jr., William Sadler, Marko Zaror and Mel Gibson – on Septmber 13, 2013.

Directed by Robert Rodriguez from a screenplay by Kyle Ward and based on a story by Marcel Rodriguez and Robert Rodríguez, MACHETE KILLS is the sequel to the 2010 hit film MACHETE - which has built a devoted legion of fans since its release – and is the second film in a trilogy.  The film is produced by Robert Rodriguez, along with Aaron Kaufman and Iliana Nikolic through their QuickDraw Productions banner, as well as Sergei Bespalov of Aldamisa Films, Alexander Rodnyansky of AR Films, and Rick Schwartz of Overnight Films.

In MACHETE KILLS, Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

Machete Kills is currently scheduled to open on October 4th, 2013.
