Marvel Studios Comic-Con Panel - SDCC 2013

Posted by The Daily Zombies Sunday, July 21, 2013

Marvel, ever the showstopper at Comic-Con, pulled it off at this year's Hall H Panel yet again. The God of Mischief showed up to absolutely reigned over all mankind at the event while Marvel Studios made several intriguing announcements.

While Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Comics might arguably made the single most significant announcement at Comic-Con with their announcement for the Batman vs. Superman film, their most distinguished competitor, Marvel Comics, a longstanding Comic-Con in their own right by the way, continue to rule all mankind at the Comic-Con with a series of announcements, and more importantly the appearance of a certain God of Mischief and Evil.

We run down the panel in the order of the scale of the news.

First up, the sequel to the box-office stomping juggernaut of Marvel Studios, The Avengers, gets a title: The Avengers: Age of Ultron!

Director Joss Whedon makes an unexpected appearance to unveil a clip to tease the much-anticipated sequel to hit the big screens in 2015. With the background featuring soundbytes from the first film, the clip showed metal pieces being assembled together leading people to think of a new Iron Man helmet until the shot pulls out to reveal the signature helmet of the arch-nemesis of The Avengers, Ultron, the murderous robot.

Interestingly, Whedon has confirmed that the origins of the cinematic Ultron will not involve Hank Pym, the scientist/superhero who unfortunately is most well-known for two things: 1, Being a wifebeater; 2, Creating Ultron. In addition, despite the title, the film will have no connection with the recent story arc with the same name (thank the heavens).

Next up, the most quirky and unpredictable Marvel Studios film got the spotlight by having the full cast appearance treatment as Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Zoe Saldana (Gamora), David Bautista (Drax the Destroyer), Benicio Del Toro (The Collector), Lee Pace (Ronan the Accuser), Djimon Hounsou (Korathf), Karen Gillan (Nebula), and Michael Rooker (Yondu) showed up together with director James Gunn to talk about the Guardians of the Galaxy.

While the cast discussed at length on production processes of the film, nothing beats a closer look at the film with the unveiling of a new concept art of the cast (oh, perhaps with the exception of Karen Gillian ripping her red-head wig off to reveal the signature bald head of Nebula.)

And here's the cast shot.

Over at the Captain America: The Winter Soldier end, nothing much was unveiled except an action-packed footage featuring everybody in the film while the cast showed up to talk about the film. With that said, a cool new concept art was released at the show.

And for those who missed out on the unveiling of the first poster earlier on, here's a good shot at the effective yet simple image.

As for the upcoming Marvel Studios film set to hit the big screens this October, Thor: The Dark World, no actual panel was actually held, leaving us with a new concept art....

... and an awe-inspiring finale to send Marvel Zombies and all attendees alike into a frenzy and an amazing standing ovation that was what the full cast of The Avengers received back in 2010. And who other than the impeccable Tom Hiddleston flexing his theatrical muscle to manipulate mere mortals at "this meager palace of Midgard, the arena they call Hall H", has the ability to call Kevin Feige, the head honcho at Marvel Studios, a "mewling quim" while assembling his very own army as he summon the thunderous crowd to say his name.

Here's an edited shot of the astonishing appearance that is every bit as good if not better than Tony Stark's show-stealing entrance last year.

The interview with Tom Hiddleston conducted by IGN after the appearance.

And for those who didn't get to attend the show, but interested in the entire Marvel panel, here's a video clip of the entire panel courtesy of emergencyawesome.
