The World's End: Final Preview

Posted by Grey Thursday, August 22, 2013

Prepared to get annihilated... by awesomeness, courtesy of the folks that brought you Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. The long-awaited final chapter of Edgar Wright's Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy is finally here as The Daily Zombies takes a final look at The World's End.

Inspired by Polish film-maker Krzysztof Kieślowski's Three Colours film trilogy, British writer/film-maker Edgar Wright worked with long-time collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost in 2004's Shaun of the Dead to kick off an unexpected trilogy that will conclude this weekend at fine theaters everywhere. Affectionately known as the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy (also known as the Blood and Ice Cream trilogy), we here at The Daily Zombies are fans of both Shaun of the Dead (incidentally the zombie comedy that revolutionized and arguably created the sub-sub-genre of zombie comedy) and 2007's Hot Fuzz (doing what the trio did with Shaun of the Dead but this time on the buddy cop action film genre). For the uninformed, while the bloody gore elements of Shaun of the Dead represented the red strawberry flavoured Cornetto, Hot Fuzz is for the blue original Cornetto with the blue police element. With the concluding chapter hitting the big screens this weekend, we now know that the last Cornetto would be the green mint choc-chip flavour

Aptly entitled "The World's End", the long-awaited final chapter of the Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy promised to take us to the very edge of apocalypse with the premise of an epic pub crawl of a group of old friends evolving into an Armageddon. Much like every other pub crawl depending on your preference. Injecting his signature dose of frenzy humor and excitement, Wright's last film before Marvel Studios' Ant-Man might just be the film of the year we are looking out for, following numerous disappointments with this year's release.

The film's UK release has been met with success that we suspect would also be in place with the film's release state-side.

Featuring an excellent cast of Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Eddie Marsan, Paddy Considine, and Martin Freeman, The World's Set set all five protagonists on a quest to repeat their legendary attempt for an epic pub-crawl that culminate in the fabled pub, "The World's End." Along the way, the world ends thanks to a shady antagonistic force. Brace yourself for an epic pub crawl in the face of an ending world.

Hit the jump to check out the awesome trailers released for the film.

As part of a viral campaign held during the Comic-Con, a virtual pub crawl following "The Golden Mile" that the characters took in the pub crawl from the film led fans to hunt down the bar signs for each of the twelve pubs from the film. Here are some of the cool bar signs displayed.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

20 years after attempting an epic pub crawl, five childhood friends reunite when one of them becomes hellbent on trying the drinking marathon again.  They are convinced to stage an encore by mate Gary King, a 40-year old man trapped at the cigarette end of his teens, who drags his reluctant pals to their hometown and once again attempts to reach the fabled pub – The World’s End.  As they attempt to reconcile the past and present, they realize the real struggle is for the future, not just theirs but humankind’s.  Reaching The World’s End is the least of their worries.

The World’s End is currently scheduled to be released in the US on October 25th.
