American Horror Story: Coven - Final Preview

Posted by The Daily Zombies Tuesday, October 8, 2013

With Halloween in our immediate horizon, Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's horror anthology returns with its third outing as The Daily Zombies checks out the awe-inspiringly creepy marketing campaign of American Horror Story: Coven.

For the non-believers, here's something that we should acknowledge by now: Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, co-creators/executive producers formerly most well-known for their insufferable musical comedy drama, Glee, are here to stay on your boob tube at least once a year. When Halloween comes by, that is. With their horror anthology series, American Horror Story, as the third outing, Coven, hits the TV screen this week.

While Asylum is in our opinion an improvement over the first season, now retitled as Murder House, it still hasn't really lived up to our expectation with its overtly convoluted storylines that even involved strange visitors from outer space. In Coven, Jessica Lange is back as a powerful witch in New Orleans who is leading her school of young witches (Mrs. Robideaux's School for Exceptional Young Ladies, which is really reminiscent of the merry mutants of Marvel) in a battle between witchcraft and voodoo with Kathy Bates playing infamous historical figure Madame Delphine LaLaurie while Angela Bassett lead the voodoo clan as Marie Laveau, yet another infamous historical figure. The series is set to kick off on FX from 9th October with the very appropriately titled first episode, "Bitchcraft".

WIth that out of the way, we are always delighted when it comes to the marketing campaign of American Horror Story: They are more often than not deliciously creepy. With Coven, Murphy's third outing certainly doesn't disappoint with the slew of disturbing images released. First up, hit the jump and feast yourself on the creepy opening credit of Coven.

A signature for the series, here are the creepy posters released for the show.

First up, an intriguing redefinition of the word "threesome".

Like last year's Asylum, no American Horror Story is complete without a deliciously creepy poster with the ensemble cast featured. And this year's main poster turned out to be an even better effort than last year's.

Rounding up the cast, here's a look at the official images from the show.

Here's the official synopsis of the series:

American Horror Story: Coven tells the secret history of witches and witchcraft in America. Over 300 years have passed since the turbulent days of the Salem witch trials and those who managed to escape are now facing extinction. Mysterious attacks have been escalating against their kind and young girls are being sent away to a special school in New Orleans to learn how to protect themselves. Wrapped up in the turmoil is new arrival, Zoe (Taissa Farmiga), who is harboring a terrifying secret of her own. Alarmed by the recent aggression, Fiona (Jessica Lange), the long-absent Supreme, sweeps back into town, determined to protect the Coven and hell-bent on decimating anyone who gets in her way.

Like its two earlier predecessors, American Horror Story: Coven is a thirteen-episode series kicking off this Wednesday at FX.
