It's a Bird... It's a Plane... It's Superman! In commemoration of Superman's 75th anniversary, Zack Snyder and Bruce Timm collaborated to conjure an awe-inspiring animated short to celebrate the remarkable history of the pop culture icon. Courtesy of DC Comics, the animated short has been released online.

Making his first appearance on 18th April 1938 in Action Comics #1, Superman has certainly come a long way from the first prominent superhero in the public consciousness to an undisputable status as a true American cultural icon. With 2013 marking the 75th anniversary of the Man of Steel, DC Comics has been celebrating the occasion with several Superman-related projects. And with the online release of an animated short starring Superman by DC Comics, brace yourself for one unforgettable journey down memory lane.

Conjured by Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. Animation's very own Bruce Timm, the two-minute animated short film is an unrelenting journey into the colorful history of Superman as we witnessed the many incarnation of the Man of Steel from comic books, movies, video games, to even a pop art courtesy of Andy Warhol himself. Guided by the steady hands of both notable Superman fans, the animated short will likewise be earning the flak of some longtime Superman fans that will complain on the lack of acknowledgement of their personal favorite characters or story arcs. Nevertheless, we can hardly blame both Timm nor Snyder for all they have is two minutes and they have even included Superman getting punched by Mohammed Ali and the god-awful 1990s redesigned of the iconic hero in blue and red. For fans of Brandon Routh and Dean Cain.... tough luck.

Interestingly, the short started with the iconic main theme composed by John William for the classic 1978 film and eventually transited into Hans Zimmer's new theme for Man of Steel. And that is certainly not a feat that should be taken lightly as Zimmer actually took upon himself to score and orchestrate the combination personally using an 80-piece orchestra.

Do head over to Entertainment Weekly to check out more on the short from the two creators, and DC Comics has also provided an official list of annotation to aid you in identifying all the nitty bitty details of the storied history of Superman. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the short will be included on the Blu-ray of Man of Steel.

And with no further ado, hit the jump to check out the animated short no self-respecting Superman fan should missed out.
