The Hunger Games: Catching Fire - Final Preview

Posted by The Daily Zombies Friday, November 22, 2013

With The Hunger Games: Catching Fire opening this weekend, The Daily Zombies takes a final look at Lionsgate's second instalment of the Hollywood adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games trilogy with the odds in their very favor.

"May the odds be ever in your favor."

While there is no doubt that the odds are never in the favor of the poor contestants of every single annually held "Hunger Games", the odds are certainly in Lionsgate's favor with their second instalment of the Hollywood adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games trilogy. With the first film catching fire at the box office, eventually shaping up to be one of the biggest films last year, a particularly impressive feat given the many major releases in 2012, production of the sequel went forth at an unusually hasty pace even when director Gary Ross announced his departure.  The director of 2005's Constantine and 2007's I Am Legend (incidentally both pop culture mainstay properties underwhelmingly received by their respective fans), Francis Lawrence was soon chosen to replace Ross as the director for the second film.

With Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson's Peeta Mellark picking up from the game-changing aftermath following their triumphs at the 74th Hunger Games, a 75th Annual Hunger Games will be taking place this year with bigger and badder action in store. As much as we still opine the plot of both film and novel appear to be a rehash of Japanese author Koushun Takami's Battle Royale novel and its film adaptation, the exploration of the activism and rebellion against authoritarian regimes are in full focus with the sequel and as such, lending more weight to the film.

The trailers released thus far have conveyed the solemn sense of survival so well that even we have to expressed excitement with the release of the film. With 2013 coming to a close rapidly, there are just a handful of unmissable blockbuster and there is no doubt that The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is one to watch out for.

Here's the Final Trailer released just in time for the film's opening.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.

Directed by Francis Lawrence and featuring a stellar cast of Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Woody Harrelson, Liam Hemsworth, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Elizabeth Banks, Donald Sutherland, Jena Malone, Jeffrey Wright, and Amanda Plummer, , The Hunger Games: Catching Fire stars is currently scheduled to open in traditional theaters and IMAX on November 22.
