WATCH The Bent Bullet

It's the 50th anniversary of the infamous assassination of John F. Kennedy this week, and it seems that the aged old mystery has finally been solved... Magneto did it, in accordance to this "Bent Bullet" theory in a viral promotion of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past

Back in June 2011, when we provided our Final Preview for director Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class, we were thrilled by Vaughn's pitch for the opening of a possible sequel:

"I've got some ideas for the opening for the next film. I thought it would be fun to open with the Kennedy Assassination, and we reveal that the magic bullet was controlled by Magneto. That would explain the physics of it, and we see that he's pissed off because Kennedy took all the credit for saving the world, and mutants weren't even mentioned. And we could go from there, and I've got some fun ideas about what other mutants to bring in. I don't want to tempt fate, though. If the film's a hit, of course I'd be interested. I really enjoyed making it."

Which brings us to the next magnum opus in the unexpectedly extended film franchise of 20th Century Fox adapting the adventures of Marvel's merry mutants: X-Men: Days of Future Past. With the somewhat convoluted storyline (considering the challenge of adapting it into a two-hour feature film) from one of the most popular story arcs of the X-Men's storied career, we can't help but wonder if the potentially engaging subplot of the magic bullet would remain in the sequel.

And now thanks to this wonderful piece of viral marketing, we not only confirmed the existence of this exciting plot development but also get to have a glimpse at the direction of the plot (at least within the cinematic world's continuity). Do head over to the Bent Bullet viral site to read up on more details. In the meantime, hit the jump to check out the viral clip.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods in X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST. The beloved characters from the original “X-Men” film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from “X-Men: First Class,” in an epic battle that must change the past — to save our future.

Directed by Bryan Singer and starring an incredible ensemble cast featuring Ian McKellen, Hugh Jackman, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Daniel Cudmore, Fan Bingbing, Evan Peters, Josh Helman, Lucas Till and Boo Boo Stewart, X-Men: Days of Future Past is currently scheduled to hit the theaters on May 23, 2014.
