American Hustle: Final Preview

Posted by The Daily Zombies Sunday, December 22, 2013

Hitting the screens a little bit earlier than originally scheduled, this weekend marks the return of acclaimed film-maker David O. Russell in American Hustle, a film loosely based on the FBI Abscam operation. The Daily Zombies take a final look at the film that has been making the rounds at every film critics' personal top ten list before visiting the cinema.

Originally scheduled to be released on Christmas Day, what has transpired is quite literally Christmas comes early with David O. Russell's American Hustle hitting the screens either this or next weekend globally. Opened domestically in the United States on 20th December (with limited releases on 13th December earlier on), American Hustle once again fall into the typical conundrum that all David O. Russell films faced: The predicament of categorising the film in a particular genre.

Based on the infamous FBI Abscam operation that led to the conviction of numerous notable politicians in the late 1970s and early 1980s, American Hustle announces its setting explicitly on its official synopsis: A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation.

Being a "fictionalization" of the infamous scam operation, American Hustle reassembled the cast from David O. Russell's previous (and incidentally both award-winning) films, 2010's The Fighter and last year' Silver Linings Playbook, with Christian Bale taking the lead with the very capable support of Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, and Robert De Niro (in an uncredited role). The film has since picked up numerous accolades from the critics and among them, it has been named as the Best Film of 2013 by the New York Film Critics Circle.

Without a doubt, American Hustle is set to be making a red hot round in the awards season but what really captured our eyes would be the intriguing ambience that have been generated by the trailers that we have seen thus far with the very talented cast embodying their characters in a captivating way.

Hit the jump to check out the official trailer as well as some other clips from the film.

Here are some of the recently-released posters for the film, mostly international.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

A fictional film set in the alluring world of one of the most stunning scandals to rock our nation, American Hustle tells the story of brilliant con man Irving Rosenfeld (Christian Bale), who along with his equally cunning and seductive British partner Sydney Prosser (Amy Adams) is forced to work for a wild FBI agent Richie DiMaso (Bradley Cooper).  DiMaso pushes them into a world of Jersey powerbrokers and mafia that’s as dangerous as it is enchanting.  Jeremy Renner is Carmine Polito, the passionate, volatile, New Jersey political operator caught between the con-artists and Feds. Irving’s unpredictable wife Rosalyn (Jennifer Lawrence) could be the one to pull the thread that brings the entire world crashing down. Like David O. Russell’s previous films, American Hustle defies genre, hinging on raw emotion, and life and death stakes.

American Hustle is currently in fine theaters everywhere.
