Godzilla: First Trailer & New Poster

Posted by The Daily Zombies Wednesday, December 11, 2013

The most iconic Kaiju of them all returns on the big screen next year and we finally have a closer look at Gareth Edwards' Godzilla with the release of the first teaser trailer by Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures.

Back in July at the Comic-Con, we have had our First Look at Legendary Pictures and British film-maker Gareth Edwards' upcoming retelling of the greatest Kaiju ever, Godzilla, with a niftily set-up "Godzilla Encounter" near the Comic-Con as well as the unveiling of a cool debut poster of the film.

With the film hitting the big screens in less than six months, Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures are drumming up their marketing engines to generate hype for the much-anticipated film by attaching the first teaser trailer to the theatrical screenings of The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug, which is set to be released this weekend. And so, without further ado, hit the jump to check out a brief trailer launch message by Gareth Edwards before witnessing the return of the greatest Kaiju of all time on the big screen with the first teaser trailer.

While it is not entirely a surprise that our first actual look at Godzilla is covered in debris and smoke, do bear in mind that this is after all a teaser trailer and teasing is what it set out to achieve. In summary, we like what we saw. From the awesome opening visual of the halo jump to the moving drama with Bryan Cranston, we can at least confirmed our earlier belief that the upcoming 2014 film is as far away as possible from the 1998 fiasco that soiled the name of the greatest Kaiju.

In fact, Gareth Edwards' vision for the film, mentioned in an interview with USA Today, further enhanced our hopeful prospect for the film:

"To me, he’s like a force of nature, like the wrath of God or vengeance for the way we’ve behaved.  If this really happened, it would be like Sept. 11.  I want it to be epic.  I want to get the hairs on the back of your neck up."

And here's an international trailer that is basically the same trailer spliced with some new footage.

An international TV spot.

The new poster released in conjunction with the first trailer, featuring the earlier mentioned halo jump scene.

Official images released thus far.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

An epic rebirth to Toho’s iconic Godzilla, this spectacular adventure pits the world’s most famous monster against malevolent creatures who, bolstered by humanity’s scientific arrogance, threaten our very existence.

Starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche, David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, and Richard T. Jones,   Godzilla is currently scheduled to open in 3D on May 16, 2014.
