The Amazing Spider-Man 2: First Trailer & Banner

Posted by Grey Thursday, December 5, 2013

Look Out! Here comes the, Amazing, Spider-Man, in director Marc Webb' sequel to 2012 reboot of one of Marvel Comics' most beloved icons. With The Amazing Spider-Man 2 set to hit the theaters in less than six months, Sony has released the first exhilarating trailer of the film.

For those who keenly followed news and developments of the upcoming films from Hollywood during the past week, none of us can denied the arrival of live-action adaptation of comic universes coming soon to a theater near everyone of us. Gal Gadot will be Wonder Woman in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman. Bryan Singer has a major announcement to make for his X-Men franchise (update: X-Men: Apocalypse dropping in theaters come May 27, 2016). Likewise, Netflix have some major announcements to make for their own much-anticipated Marvel miniseries (update: Drew Goddard, of Cabin in the Woods fame, will be the showrunner for Daredevil). And now, true believers (as Stan Lee would have it), brace yourself for a spectacular action-packed trailer for director Marc Webb's follow-up to his successful 2012 reboot of one of comicdom's most beloved icons, The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

Without further ado, hit the jump to check out the appropriately amazing trailer of The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

And here's look at the trailer with commentary from Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx and Dane DeHaan, courtesy of Total Film.

"The more people I try to save, the more enemies I will make.  And it’s just a matter of time before I face those with more power than I can overcome."

And if that ain't a clue to what to expect for the next chapter of Marc Webb's iteration of our friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man (cough, Sinister, cough, Six). Which lead us to a more worrying aspect of this spectacular trailer and the direction the film franchise is apparently heading to.

20th Century Fox have their Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises (with plans to merge both into
√† la the Mighty Avengers), Warner Bros have their full library of DC Comics characters, and Marvel Studios with their box office-stomping Marvel Cinematic Universe. So what can Sony, with their movie rights over the Spider-Man characters, do with a single superhero in their cinematic arsenal? Apart from the next most obvious move of taking out the popular villain-turned-anti-hero Venom into a solo outing, bring on the Sinister Six. If you can't assemble the heroes, assemble the villains. I would have to stop everyone right here to pause for a moment to think of the single most often mentioned reason behind the critical failure of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3: Too many villains.

With that in mind, is this film franchise heading the right direction? It's your call, undead consumer.

As usual, iO9 is diligent enough to roll out their well-examined shot-by-shot analysis of the first trailer soon enough as well. Head over to the page for an elaborate analysis of the clip. In the meantime, here are some of the most interesting images from these screen captures right below for your easy consumption.

Released in time to coincide with the first trailer, here's the first posters, also available as a triptych banner with the villains conspicuously unveiled.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is currently scheduled to be released on May 2, 2014.
