Take on this awesome blast from the past from the 90s as we croon along the classic Fox Network's Fox Kids Saturday morning cartoon version of Marvel Comics' X-Men in this cool stop motion rendition of the opening of X-Men: The Animated Series.

Marvel's merry mutants have reached the epitome of popularity both in the comic book world and Hollywood. With the release of James Mangold's The Wolverine earlier this year and the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, we are dead certain that the X-Men will get an even more prominent position in pop culture in times to come. But let's not forget their first claim of popularity outside the comic book world - X-Men: The Animated Series, the cartoon series that was part of Fox Network's Fox Kids Saturday morning lineup, bringing the popular mutants into the psyche of kids who don't read comics.

In this tribute video clip released around this time last year to celebrate the classic animated series' 20th anniversary, film-maker Kyle Roberts and crew recreate the opening by taking more than 4,000 individual pictures to conjure a stop motion rendition complete with a new version of the original theme. Hit the jump to check out the clip for a maximum dose of 90s retro and mutant madness.
