RoboCop: Omnicorp 2027 CES Keynote Presentation

Posted by The Daily Zombies Wednesday, January 8, 2014

At the recent Consumer Electronic Show (CES), Sony Pictures presented the Future of Law Enforcement with a 2027 presentation video that is a part of the viral marketing campaign for RoboCop, the upcoming reboot of the 1987 sci-fi classic of the same name

The last we checked out José Padilha's RoboCop remake with the international trailer, our enthusiasm for José Padilha's take on the 1987 epic sci-fi film by Paul Verhoeven dwindled a few notches after learning the rebooted plot point of which Alex Murphy and family were immediately made known of his transformation and thus picking up the humanity vs. programming conflict pretty quickly. This development immediately remove Murphy's conflicted quest to regain his humanity and identity and in our undead opinions, hurt the character mythos tremendously.

With the recently-released clip for the film released at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Sony Pictures continue their viral marketing campaign for the film with a CES Keynote Presentation set in the year 2027. Presented by none other than OmniCorp (a spokesman that is accordingly a protege of Michael Keaton's character, the CEO of OmniCorp), the clip is a tease on the development leading into RoboCop. While the clip is somewhat reminiscent of the TED talk presentation by Peter Weyland (founder and head of Weyland Corp) in the viral marketing campaign for Ridley Scott's Prometheus, it is also notably much inferior than the chilling speech thanks to the gusto of Guy Pearce. And suffice to say, it didn't exactly helped the film's status in our opinions. It is still well within the perfectly missable range for us now.

Nevertheless, hit the jump to check out the clip and make your own assessment.

And here are the recent;y-released International TV spots for Taiwan.

The international poster for China.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years – and it’s meant billions for OmniCorp’s bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) – a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit – is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.

Starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish, Jay Brauchel, Jackie Earle Haley, and Samuel L. Jackson, RoboCop is scheduled to open on February 12, 2014.
