A Field in England: First Look

From the director of Kill List and Sightseers comes an unconventional period thriller that are equal parts psychedelic horror, arthouse, and dark comedy.

There are no doubts that the films made by Ben Wheatley are pretty much not for the squeamish. From Down Terrace, Kill List, to Sightseers, grisly violence laced with a peculiar surrealism has always been a signature for the English film-maker. In Wheatley's latest film, he boldly reaches for a form of psychedelic horror complete with a bleak black-and-white cinematography.

Set in 1648 where three runaway soldiers are led by an alchemist into an unlikely quest where they discover a bold new form of horror, A Field in England has been launched in US for a limited release and is also available via VOD since Friday. Brace yourself for a bleak and violent period trip with the two trailers for the film right after the jump.

Here’s the official synopsis of the film:

England: 1648 AD. A small group of deserters flee from a raging battle through an overgrown field. They are captured by two men: O’Neil and Cutler. O’Neil (Michael Smiley), an alchemist, forces the group to aid him in his search to find a hidden treasure that he believes is buried in the field. Crossing a vast mushroom circle, which provides their first meal, the group quickly descend into a chaos of arguments, fighting and paranoia, and, as it becomes clear that the treasure might be something other than gold, they slowly become victim to the terrifying energies trapped inside the field. A Field In England is a psychedelic trip into magic and madness from Ben Wheatley – award-winning director of Down Terrace, Kill List and Sightseers.
