True Romance by Gabz & Odd City Entertainment

Odd City Entertainment and Polish artist Gabz pay homage to one of Tony Scott's best films with not one but two intriguing take on 1993's True Romance.

While many perceive Tony Scott's True Romance as a great showing of visceral visual and snappy writing, the film was considered as a box office flop back when it was released in 1993. Today, we are enamoured by Gary Oldman's dreadlocked pimp Drexl Spivey, the "Sicilian scene" between Christopher Walken and Dennis Hopper, and of course, the absolute brilliance of Quentin Tarantino. Chipping in to share our adulation of the crime/romance cult film, Odd City Entertainment has teamed up once again with Polish artist Grzegorz Domaradzki, better known as Gabz, to conjure not one but two exciting renditions of the film.

In line with the film's setting in both the cities of Detroit and Los Angeles, the print has been released in two versions to represent both cities. The blue Cupid on the white background is for Detroit, and the black Cupid on cream is for Los Angeles. In the words of the artist himself:

“Coming up with a concept for a movie like True Romance, that I have been a huge fan of for years and is among my favourite Tony Scott films of all time, wasn’t as easy as I thought it would be when I first got the proposal. There are so many brilliant quotes, memorable scenes and a mind-blowing soundtrack on top of it all.

The Hawaiian shirted Cupid I went with, symbolizing the bizarre romance between Alabama and Clarence, came to me as a revelation and I felt I had a winner. I desperately wanted to not only catch the mood of the film, but also include as many characters as I could possibly fit. I love every single performance from the movie and I felt like everyone deserved a tribute.” – Grzegorz “GABZ” Domaradzki
