DOOMED! The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s The Fantastic Four: First Look

Posted by The Daily Zombies Saturday, March 8, 2014

Ironically, the most fantastic part about adapting Marvel Comics' The Fantastic Four back in 1994 would be how the production turned out to be the perfect disaster. And now we have a documentary to prove it.

In 1992, German producer Bernd Eichinger was dealt with a dilemma of epic proportion: After obtaining the live-action adaptation rights of Marvel Comics' The Fantastic Four in 1986 for a considerable sum, he has to produce the film ahead of the expiration date of the adaptation rights in order to retain the option with no major studios expressing interest due to the potential budget concerns. And it was then that Eichinger was struck with what seemed to be a brilliant idea: "They didn't say I had to make a big movie".

Eichinger met up with Roger Corman, the king of B' films, who agree to produced the film with a budget of under a million. And the rest is history. The low-budget superhero film was so bad that it was never officially released.

For those who enjoyed watching a trainwreck in all its intricate details, rejoice yet as Marty Langford documents the making of the perfect Hollywood disaster back in the 90s. For a lost superhero film so bad that it was never released, one can only imagine how low it went especially when films like the abysmal 1990 American-Yugolavian Captain America adaptation manage to surface against all odds.

Hit the jump to check out the trailer of the documentary.

Here’s the official synopsis for the documentary:

Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman's "The Fantastic Four" is a feature length documentary tracking the history of the troubled 1994 Concord-New Horizon's/Constantin Films' "production, "The Fantastic Four".
