I Origins: First Look - Undead Monday

Posted by The Daily Zombies Monday, April 21, 2014

With the release of the first trailer of I Origins by Fox Searchlight, we have our First Look at yet another Sundance darling of director Mike Cahill this Undead Monday.

Back in 2011, we covered Another Earth, the feature film debut of director Mike Cahill, with a sense of enthusiasm given the glowing reviews that the high-concept sci-fi film have received at the Sundance Film Festival back then. Reuniting with Brit Marling, Cahill is back to rule Sundance this year with his new sci-fi film, I Origins.

While Another Earth explores the possibility and potential repercussion should another planet Earth appeared right above us, I Origins explores, well, the starling premise of the origins of human, both scientifically and spiritually. There is no doubt that this is going to be another enlightening cinematic experience that is too few and far between with tentpole movies ruling the cinemas.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

I Origins, the second feature film from writer and director Mike Cahill, tells the story of Dr. Ian Gray (Michael Pitt), a molecular biologist studying the evolution of the eye. He finds his work permeating his life after a brief encounter with an exotic young woman (Astrid Bergès-Frisbey) who slips away from him. As his research continues years later with his lab partner Karen (Brit Marling), they make a stunning scientific discovery that has far reaching implications and complicates both his scientific and spiritual beliefs. Traveling half way around the world, he risks everything he has ever known to validate his theory. Also starring Steven Yeun and Archie Panjabi, the film is produced by Mike Cahill, Hunter Gray and Alex Orlovsky.

Starring Michael Pitt, Brit Marling, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey and Steven Yeun, I Origins is currently scheduled to be released in select theaters on July 18th.
