Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - Official Title & Logo Unveiled

Posted by The Daily Zombies Thursday, May 22, 2014

Arguably the most anticipated film of 2016, Zack Snyder's sequel to Man of Steel that will unite Superman and Batman on the big screen for the very first time finally gets a title. Prepare yourself for the Dawn of Justice.

Easily one of the most mystifying movie-marketing mysteries in recent history that is in my undead opinion more perplexing than how J.J. Abrams' Khan cover-up is Warner Bros. Pictures and Zack Snyder's inability to give the Man of Steel sequel (that will incidentally unite the two foremost comic book icons, Batman and Superman, on the big screen for the very first time) a freaking name. We have been enduring the peculiar Batman Vs. Superman working title for so long that we were still calling the film with that outlandish title when Snyder revealed Ben Affleck's Batman earlier this month.

Today, Warner Bros and Snyder finally got their acts together to unveil the official title of the film: Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

And we can't help but felt overwhelmed by the title. Let's dissect this in two parts.

First, the official title, Batman v Superman. Is this a goddamn courtroom drama where Batman sues Superman for the massive destruction caused in Man of Steel? Because "v" is exclusively used in lawsuits to represent "versus".  You don't see Daniel Bryan v Bray Wyatt or Manny Pacquiao v Timothy Bradley. As raw and peculiar as Batman Vs. Superman was, it at least made logical sense.

Now we move on to the sub-title. Okay, we all know that the Man of Steel sequel is going to be the lead-in to the eventual Justice League film with casting confirmations of Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and the recently-revealed Victor Stone/Cyborg casting of Ray Fisher. So it made some kind of sense with the "Dawn of Justice", since this is the dawn before Justice League. But it also insinuates the fact that there are no justice before that Justice League film and especially in Man of Steel (which kind of made some bizarro sense given the insane body count of the film).

Apart from that, it is interesting to note that Superman is not getting the top billing in the title despite the film being his own franchise. Kind of telling of the Man of Steel's pop culture status these days. Anyway, hit the jump to check out the official logo of the film as well as the official press release details for more.
