Ben Affleck's Batman: First Look

Posted by The Daily Zombies Tuesday, May 13, 2014

Brace yourself as Zack Snyder gives us the first look at Ben Affleck's Batman in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel with the working title,  Batman Vs. Superman.

Back in August last year, much like everybody else, we gave our two cents on the casting of Ben Affleck as the one and only Batman in the upcoming sequel to Man of Steel that will unite Superman and Batman on the big screen for the very first time. While we didn't exactly raise our undead fists in unison to rage against the casting choice, we also do not respond particularly well with it especially considering Affleck's past resume in a superhero get-up (specifically an extremely red one). But with all things said and done, we chose not to overtly-criticize the choice give our past experience with Heath Ledger's casting choice as The Joker in The Dark Knight back in 2006.

Which brings us to today as Zack Snyder, the director of both the Man of Steel and its forthcoming (and strangely untitled) sequel that pit the World's Finest against each for the first time on the big screen, surprisingly unveil the first official image of Ben Affleck in full Batman outfit, with the caption "I shot this with my @Leica_Camera M Monochrom," via his Twitter account. And with no further ado, check out the brooding Dark Knight in an interesting new take on the iconic costume right after the jump (click on it to view in hi-res).

Intriguingly enough, the Batman costume is obviously inspired by Frank Miller’s all-time classic The Dark Knight Returns with the shorter bat ears and the huge bat-insignia on Batman's chest. Just so we know that Snyder wasn't kidding back when the film was first announced by actor Henry Lennix's recitation of one of the famous line by Batman to Superman in The Dark Knight Returns. In addition, it's also interesting to note that the design takes a departure from the more body-armor-like designs popularized in Christopher Nolan's epic trilogy.

Snyder's tweet came one day after teasing the image of the new Batmobile while commenting on the possibility of further "pulling the tarps"on the next day.

A follow-up to Snyder's 2013 film Man of Steel, the currently untitled sequel features returning stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane reprising their roles in the first film, while including Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, as well as Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor. The film is set to release in theaters on 6th May 2016.
