Optimus Prime, Ancient Chinese General Style

Posted by The Daily Zombies

Transformers: Age of Extinction hits the cinema this weekend and we here at The Daily Zombies just don't care... But to commemorate the event, how apt it is to cover an awesome ancient Chinese General version of Optimus Prime courtesy of Chinese artist

Why yes, this is the weekend that Transformers: Age of Extinction, Michael Bay's next chapter of his abysmally reviewed yet best-selling live-action adaptation film series of Transformers, hit the big screen and we here at The Daily Zombies decided against doing one of those Final Preview we usually do for the major or noteworthy releases. While we do find the Dinobots, the China setting, Lockdown's appearance, and the pulse-pounding action sequence enticing, we knew better thanks to the earlier three films from Bay, particularly Dark of the Moon.

In our Final Preview for Dark of the Moon,  this is our verdict before going to the theaters:

And yes, we here at The Daily Zombies will also be there at the theaters to check out the much-talked-about 3D effects. Much like everybody else. Will the last film in the franchise that many are calling "metal-clashing porn" be the last straw for us ? We will see.

So there you go, the answer to that question: Yes indeed, the fucking last straw. Which is why despite Mark Walhberg being a likable actor, and the enticing omission of Shia LaBeouf, we will never ever gain our interests with the franchise back although we practically grew up with the Hasbro cartoons.

Back to the subject at hand, we just thought how apt it would be given the franchise's new interest in China's market and how the second half of the film will purported be set in China and / or Hong Kong that we take a look at Chinese artist Nkzhangwang's ancient Chinese general (think Dynasty Warriors if you just can't connect with the concept) take on Optimus Prime. Yes, Optimus Prime will totally kill it if he was to arrive in the Three Kingdom eras. Check out the image right below.

WATCH Robot Chicken - Star Trek: The Next Generation's Night Crew

Posted by The Daily Zombies

Ever wonder if the Enterprise crew work 24/7 around the clock or do they have a night shift team to take over during graveyard shifts? Wonder no more. Thanks to the amazing folks from Robot Chicken.

In an amazing spur of awesomeness thanks to the talented folks from Robot Kitchen, an incredible moment in Star Trek lore took place on the June 29th episode of Robot Kitchen in answering the lingering question on every rational fans of the franchise regardless of the particular series they adore: Does the Enterprise crew work 24/7 around the clock or do they have a night shift team to take over during graveyard shifts?

It takes an equally epic crew to answer this epic question as Chris Pine, in an unexpectedly unrecognizable yet utterly astonishing performance, lead the Graveyard Shift team in taking over from 11pm to 7pm as the night crew take over from Picard, voiced by the one and only Sir Patrick Stewart! Yes, the two captains finally meet (in one hell of a way). And if you think this is it, resistance is futile as the Borgs come calling.

So without further ado, check out the awesome clip right below, courtesy of IGN

Life After Beth: First Look - Zombie of the Week

Posted by The Daily Zombies

See exactly how Love will keep you alive in our First Look at Life After Beth, the Sundance darling of 2014.

While one can hardly categorize Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2's critical response as overwhelming negative, you got to admit that despite the film's emotional climax near its conclusion, we can't really see how anybody is getting drummed up by either the spin-off films or the third outing set to be released in 2016. With that said, we here at The Daily Zombies absolutely agree with what most critics have noted: The film has a blasting cast. Apart from real-life couple Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone's sizzling on-screen chemistry, Dane DeHaan chewed the screens and totally owned the character of Harry Osborn like James Franco never did in three outings.

So it came to nobody's surprise that we are very much excited with Life After Beth, an upcoming zombie comedy that made its premiere at this year's Sundance to a positive response. A living (no pun intended) proof that the unlikely sub-genre of zom-rom-com (zombie romantic comedy) is alive and kicking, the film directed by Jeff Baena features DeHaan as a lovelorn teenager who lost his girlfriend, the eponymous Beth portrayed by an inspired Aubrey Plaza, who later returned looking all normal but certainly not. Of course, she's hungry for brains and human flesh though appearing to be relatively sane despite her ravenous urges.

Throw in the ever-efficient John C. Reilly and Molly Shannon as Mr. and Mrs. Slocum, Life After Beth is certainly one hell of reminder that the zom-rom-com sub-genre is here to stay. Set for a limited released in mid-August stateside, the first trailer of the film has been released and embedded right below for your undead pleasure.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

Look at This Stuff, Isn't It Neat by Mark Englert

Conjured as part of the "Stroke of Midnight" timed release event, artist Mark Englert take on an unlikely subject in Disney's all-time classic, The Little Mermaid.

The brilliance of artist Mark Englert has been well-chronicled here at The Daily Zombies with our regular coverage of the artist's works from his disquietingly moving rendition of a scene from AMC's live-action TV adaptation of The Walking Dead in "This is My Farm… I’ll Die Here", his innovative take on the dual realities of Fringe with "The Plateau" poster, to his cool take on Josh Trank's 2012 critically acclaimed sleeper hit, Chronicle, in "Please Tell Me You Got That On Tape"

As part of the "Stroke of Midnight" timed release event, Englert took on the unlikely subject of Disney's all-time classic, The Little Mermaid, with delightful results. Fury: First Trailer & Poster

Posted by The Daily Zombies

Having cast our First Look at Fury back in September last year, we have been eagerly awaiting writer/director David Ayer's follow-up to his acclaimed cop drama, End of Watch. Courtesy of the first trailer released by Sony Pictures, here's a closer look at the World War II action drama featuring a stellar ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt.

It certainly has been a while since we last heard about Fury, writer/director David Ayer's follow-up to his critically acclaimed 2012 cop drama, End of Watch. In our First Look at the World War II action drama, we took notice of the grim and gritty visual of the film and were impressed by the bold attempt to make a realistic World War II film with a stellar ensemble cast spearheaded by Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf, Logan Lerman, Michael Pena, and Jon Bernthal. After all, the last well-budgeted good world movie that we saw was Steven Spielberg's 2011 War Horse. Which explains our thirst for an action-packed thriller with a good ol' anti-war message. Perhaps it is Hollywood's current obsession with tent-pole films that have somehow put a stop to many film genres with a somewhat perceived specific target audience.

In Fury, Brad Pitt plays battle-hardened U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Wardaddy (what's in a name), who lead his five-man crew of an American Sherman tank known as "Fury".  As the allies bring the war to the heart of Nazi Germany in final days of World War II in April 1945, Fury took on overwhelming odds behind enemy lines in a mission that might prove to be deadly for Wardaddy and his men.

While we have Ayer to thank for unveiling the first images via his Twitter account earlier on, Sony Pictures Entertainment has released the first trailer for the World War II action drama. Check out the moody trailer displaying both visceral tank battle sequences and character drama in fair share right below.

Prior to the release of the first trailer, Sony Pictures Entertainment has also released a behind-the-scene featurette of the film. Here's the featurette to whet your appetite further.

Coinciding with the release of the first trailer, here's the first poster, pushing the moody ambience further.

And here are some other images that were released via Ayer's Twitter account.

For those missed out our coverage last year, here's the first image released last year.

Here's the official synopsis of the film:

FURY is set at the very end of World War II, in April 1945.  As the Allies make their final push in the European Theater, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy (Brad Pitt) commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines.  Outnumbered and outgunned, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.

Fury is currently scheduled to be released on 14th November, 2014.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: First Full Trailer & Posters

Posted by The Daily Zombies

"So, they are aliens?"

"No, That's STUPID. They are Turtles."

Thanks, Megan Fox. Michael Bay apparently doesn't mind taking a hit or two in this first full trailer for the upcoming live-action adaptation of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle for the new generation.

In our First Look article on the upcoming live-action adaptation of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles directed by Jonathan Liebesman, we mentioned our earlier concerns over producer Michael Bay's claims that the "Heroes in a Half-Shell" that captured the imagination of an entire generation back in the late 80s will be returning to the big screen as aliens with the "Teenage Mutant" namesake omitted. Of course, that moronic idea was canned and here we are, merely two months ahead of the release of the film. But we can't help but think of what a massively stupid idea that alien ninja thing was about.

And now we have Megan Fox, in her role as April O'Neal, to agree with us in the first full trailer for the film. Apart from giving us our first real look at William Fichtner's Shredder in full costume, the trailer also end with a hilarious scene with Megan Fox explaining what the Turtles are all about to her colleague Will Arnett and Whoopi Goldberg.

"So, they are aliens?"

"No, That's STUPID. They are Turtles."

Here's the action packed trailer complete with some intensive electro dub-step background music.

We have seen the first set of teaser character posters with the Turtles holding on to their respective weapon. Here's the recently-unveiled character poster set.

And here's another set of illustrated character poster set inclusive of Shredder.

And here are some of recently-revealed set pictures for the film.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

The city needs heroes. Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April and her wise-cracking cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.

Starring Megan Fox, Will Arnett, William Fichtner, Whoopi Goldberg, and featuring the voice of Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub,  Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is currently scheduled to open on 8th August, 2014.
