Mad Max: Fury Road - First Look - SDCC 2014

Posted by The Daily Zombies Monday, July 28, 2014

Only the Mad survive in George Miller's unbelievably fourth installment of the post-apocalyptic of the first film of a franchise in almost three decades with Mad Max: Fury Road. At the Comic-Con, we get our First Look at the film with the release of the first trailer.

What a lovely day indeed. The original post-apocalyptic anti-hero is back after a hiatus of almost three decades. Mad Max, AKA Max Rockatansky AKA The Road Warrior, returns to the big screen courtesy of Tom Hardy, the new age go-to guy for badass character casting with franchise creator George Miller back at helm.

While the tumultuous jinxed production process of the film has been well-documented, we are just glad the film will definitely be ready come May 15 next year. In the fourth installment from the Mad Max franchise, Max continues his brooding way as new characters show up in the post-apocalyptic landscape for better or worse. Charlize Theron is Imperator Furiosa, leading a group of post-apocalyptic creeps including, but not limited to a freakishly-bleached Nicholas Hoult, as well as Zoe Kravitz and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.

In the film's Comic-Con panel, Miller indicated that the film is closer in tone to Mad Max 2 in the sense that the film happened over a short period of time. In an earlier interview with Entertainment Weekly, Miller made that point even clearer:

“I wanted to tell a linear story–a chase that starts as the movie begins and continues for 110 minutes.”

With the unveiling of the Comic-Con trailer, Warner Bros. has released the first trailer of the film online and it is every bit as post-apocalyptic awesome as one might expect: Gorgeous monster trucks, freakish leather-bound creeps, and high speed desert car chases are but some of those insane images. Check out the clip embedded below followed by the series of posters and official images released thus far.

And here's the newly-released official synopsis for the film:

Haunted by his turbulent past, Mad Max believes the best way to survive is to wander alone. Nevertheless, he becomes swept up with a group fleeing across the Wasteland in a War Rig driven by an elite Imperator, Furiosa. They are escaping a Citadel tyrannized by the Immortan Joe, from whom something irreplaceable has been taken. Enraged, the Warlord marshals all his gangs and pursues the rebels ruthlessly in the high-octane Road War that follows.

“Mad Max: Fury Road”—the fourth in the franchise’s history—stars Tom Hardy (“The Dark Knight Rises”) in the title role, alongside Oscar winner Charlize Theron (“Monster,” “Prometheus”) as the Imperator, Furiosa. The film also stars Nicholas Hoult (“X-Men: Days of Future Past”) as Nux; Hugh Keays-Byrne (“Mad Max”, “Sleeping Beauty”) as Immortan Joe; and Nathan Jones (“Conan the Barbarian”) as Rictus Erectus. Collectively known as The Wives, Zoë Kravitz (“Divergent”) plays Toast, Riley Keough (“Magic Mike”) is Capable, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley (“Transformers: Dark of the Moon”) is Splendid. They are joined by supermodel Abbey Lee as The Dag and Courtney Eaton as Fragile, both of whom are making their big screen debuts. Also featured in the movie are Josh Helman as Slit, Jennifer Hagan as Miss Giddy, and singer/songwriter/performer iOTA as Coma-Doof Warrior. The cast is rounded out by well-known Australian actors John Howard and Richard Carter, supermodel Megan Gale, Angus Sampson, Joy Smithers, Gillian Jones, Melissa Jaffer and Melita Jurisic.

Mad Max: Fury Road is currently scheduled to open on May 15, 2015.
