The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies - First Look

With the Comic-Con panel of the final chapter of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy hitting San Diego this weekend, Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first poster and image of The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.

It started Unexpected. Then it got Desolated. And now with the concluding, or shall I stay in line with the marketing department of Warner Bros. Pictures and call it "The Defining" chapter of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy hitting the screens in December, we get our first look at the film with a new poster and image ahead of the film's Comic-Con panel this Saturday at the San Diego Comic-Con.

Admittedly, the second chapter of the film has improved tremendously and we have no doubt that we are getting one hell of an epic final battle setting the Middle-Earth stage for the future events of The Lord of the Rings with this one. Nevertheless, we are always one for the subtlety and would have love the original title of "There and Back Again" though we have agree with Jackson's notion that "There and Back Again felt like the right name for the second of a two film telling of the quest to reclaim Erebor, when Bilbo’s arrival there, and departure, were both contained within the second film. But with three movies, it suddenly felt misplaced—after all, Bilbo has already arrived “there” in the Desolation of Smaug."

Nevertheless, while The Battle of the Five Armies is a battle fought behind the scenes in the novella, the ambition of realizing it is in itself a valiant effort and with a visionary film-maker the likes of Jackson, we can certainly set our high hopes for one epic medieval clash with the final chapter.

With no further ado, check out the first poster followed by the first image right below.

And here's the first official image for the film.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

The concluding chapter of The Hobbit trilogy,  The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on 17th December, 2014.
