The Strain: Final Preview - Undead Monday

Posted by The Daily Zombies Monday, July 7, 2014

This Undead Monday, we take a final look at FX's upcoming television adaptation of the horror novel from the minds of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan before its much-anticipated premiere on Sunday.

T'was the Golden Age of Television.

In time to come, will we look back and rejoice while analysing when exactly did the first crack happened that led to the fall of television's greatest era? Yes, that "darkest timeline" will eventually come but today, this very Undead Monday, is not the day. Horror in television has recently received an revitalizing shot in the arm thanks to John Logan and director Sam Mendes' Showtime series Penny Dreadful, and we are just all too glad that at the end of the other corner of horror as a television drama genre, we have FX's The Strain, the television adaptation of the horror novel from the minds of Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, who also happened to be the driving force behind the much-anticipated horror drama.

Set to debut on this coming Sunday, the 13-episode horror drama series entails an apocalyptic-level crisis as a viral outbreak in New York transformed the New Yorkers into vampires. And we are not talking about lovey-dovey, shiny vampires the likes that you get in Twilight or True Blood, but true vampiric monstrosity that can give the ugliest zombies a run of their money.

Without a doubt, The Strain is one of our most anticipated television premieres in some time and being in the great Golden Age of Television, that fact itself is a testament to the pedigree of the horror drama. For those who have not been following the development of the series, join us as we take a final look at the series by checking out some of the promotional items from FX ahead of the series premiere.

Here’s the official synopsis for the FX horror drama series:

The Strain is a high concept thriller from Academy Award® nominated Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, author Chuck Hogan and writer/producer Carlton Cuse, which is based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and Hogan.  It tells the story of “Dr. Ephraim Goodweather,” the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City.  He and his team are called upon to investigate a mysterious viral outbreak with hallmarks of an ancient and evil strain of vampirism.  As the strain spreads, Eph, his team, and an assembly of everyday New Yorkers, wage war for the fate of humanity itself.
