Nightcrawler: First Look

"If it bleeds, it leads!"

In Nightcrawler, the feature directorial debut of Dan Gilroy, witness the unnerving transformation of Jake Gyllenhaal in an intriguing crime thriller that also explores modern media ethics.

Sometime back in 2013, it was reported that Academy Award nominee
Jake Gyllenhaal apparently went through some drastic physical transformation which is a far cry from his hunk physique in the 2010 Disney film, Prince of Persia. And with the unveiling of Nightcrawler, we can fully comprehend the acclaimed actor's method (acting) to the madness.

In his feature directorial debut, Dan Gilroy, the screenwriter of Bourne Legacy along with his brother, Tony (the film-maker who brought us the surprisingly intriguing Duplicity), and husband to actor Renee Russo, explores the fine line of crime journalism by taking on the subject of nightcrawling, the unorthodox practice of stalking crime scenes to get breaking news and footage ahead of the other media, in the seedy underworld of L.A. Also starring Bill Paxton, Riz Ahmed, and the aforementioned Rene Russo, Nightcrawler will first be making the rounds at the Toronto International Film Festival in September with an official release in October.

What really appealed to us with the film is the first viral teaser clip depicting a hauntingly brutal job-hunt by Gyllenhaal's character, Lou Bloom. The gaunt appearance of Gyllenhaal became immediately hypnotic for the maniacally driven and desperate Bloom as he went through his well-rehearsed job interview speech again and again in the unnerving clip. Check it out right below followed by the first and second official trailer of the film.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

NIGHTCRAWLER is a pulse-pounding thriller set in the nocturnal underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles.  Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Lou Bloom, a driven young man desperate for work who discovers the high-speed world of L.A. crime journalism.  Finding a group of freelance camera crews who film crashes, fires, murder and other mayhem, Lou muscles into the cut-throat, dangerous realm of nightcrawling — where each police siren wail equals a possible windfall and victims are converted into dollars and cents.  Aided by Rene Russo as Nina, a veteran of the blood-sport that is local TV news, Lou thrives.  In the breakneck, ceaseless search for footage, he becomes the star of his own story.

Nightcrawler is currently scheduled to premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September with an official release on October 31st, 2014.
