The Godfather Part I by Laurent Durieux & Odd City Entertainment

Collaborating with Odd City Entertainment, Laurent Durieux does it again with an amazing vision of Francis Ford Coppola's all-time epic film, The Godfather Part I.

The last time we covered the impeccable works of Brussels illustrator and graphic artist Laurent Durieux, we were checking out his incredible vision of Park Chan-Wook's unrelenting 2003 thriller, Oldboy, for the cover of Milan Records' LP release of the original soundtrack for the film. Today, it came to our attention that the increasingly prolific artist collaborated with Odd City Entertainment to take on one of the most loved films of all time, Francis Ford Coppola’s The Godfather Part I.

In an interview with the ever-resourceful Blurppy, Durieux has the following to say on his latest work:

When I was contacted by Odd City to see if I was interested in working on The Godfather Trilogy, I didn’t think twice about it. The Godfather films are amongst my favourite movies of all time, period. I grew up with these movies. So many movies are referring to the GF nowadays, and fantastic TV shows like The Sopranos (which I love) hint constantly to the masterpieces from Francis Ford Coppola.

The Godfather inhabits us all. It’s part of our general culture. It should be taught at school! It is such a milestone in cinema history too! It’s really impossible to say anything negative about The Godfather. It doesn’t’ get any better than this! As for the original poster, I must admit I have always been sort of disappointed with it, but I can’t exactly pinpoint why. Probably it doesn’t convey the richness of the movie, the vibe and the overall atmosphere. What about the logo of The Godfather, created by the fantastic and underrated painter and graphic designer S. Neil Fujita? I’m such a huge fan of his that there was no way I wasn’t going to use his logo for my version of the poster. Such an iconic image! I am truly honoured to give my interpretation of this masterpiece and I hope I will do it justice. Leave the gun, take the canollis…

As usual, there are two editions of the print but this time, a limited Wood Edition at a limited run of 50 prints will also be available for $300. Sale of these prints are scheduled to kick off on next Monday, November 17th on the ODD CITY ENTERTAINMENT STORE.

With no further ado, check out both editions of the print right below.
