Star Wars: The Force Awakens - Character Names Revealed

Posted by The Daily Zombies Friday, December 12, 2014

Thanks to Entertainment Weekly,  we get to put some names on the faces we have seen in the first trailer of J. J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens in quite possibly the most nostalgic way possible: Old-school Topps trading card-style.

Late last month, we finally got our First Look at Star Wars: The Force Awakens with the release of the first teaser trailer of Episode VII of arguably the biggest sci-fi franchise ever. Nevertheless, being the secretive film-maker that J. J. Abrams is, and this being Star Wars after all, we never get to know more on what we witnessed. So all we get is a cryptic look with John Boyega in Stormtrooper get-up, Daisy Ridley racing away in what appeared to be Tatooine, Oscar Isaac in a X-Wing, and more important than everything else: An ominous figure wielding a next-generation lightsaber with an awesome-looking crossguard.

But now, in an unexpected marketing move, Abrams has unveiled the names of these characters in a collection of vintage Topps trading cards complete with somewhat grainy quality. Revealed exclusively through Entertainment Weekly, these cards let in on some cool information though some of the characters are conspicuously without a last name. In addition, Abrams answered yes when asked if there was significance of numbering of these "trading cards". More food for thought for the Star Wars fans.

Head over to Entertainment Weekly to learn more on their analysis on each images. In the meantime, check out these "trading cards" right below.

#11 — BB-8 on the move

• #53 — Poe Dameron in his X-Wing

• #67 — Kylo Ren ignites his Lightsaber

• #74 — Rey on her Speeder

• #76 — Finn on the run

• #81 — Stormtroopers prepare for battle

• #88 — X-Wings in formation

 • #96 — The Millennium Falcon
