WATCH Stephen Colbert interview Smaug

Posted by The Daily Zombies Saturday, December 13, 2014

Brace yourself for the ultimate promotion for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. Stephen Colbert interview Smaug (voiced by the impeccable Benedict Cumberbatch) on The Colbert Report. Nuff said.

With The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies hitting the theatres next week, the marketing department of Warner Bros. Pictures has been firing on all cylinders to ensure that the release of "The Defining" chapter of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy is etched on the consciousness of every undead mind. And today, we just witnessed the single most effective way of doing just that: Get Smaug the Magnificent on to The Colbert Report. Yes, we are talking about a stand-off between the "Wicked Worm" and one of the biggest Tolkien fanatics out there, Stephen Colbert himself.

With Colbert moving on to the Late Night show to take over David Letterman next year, The Colbert Report is on its last legs and thing just keep getting bigger with Barack Obama being the guest last week. So naturally, they have to get someone bigger than the President of the United States this week. Enter Smaug, as incredibly voiced by the recently-confirmed Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch, with some gut-busting bad language to boot.

Rest assured that this will be the best clip you will be watching today or, if you are as big a Sherlock fan as us here at The Daily Zombies, for a very very long time. Check out the clip right below as Peter Jackson and crew gamely pull off the real deal in the hilarious interview.

And just so that you can get a sense of how big a Tolkien fan Colbert is, check out the covers of the latest copy of Entertainment Weekly with Colbert taking on the roles of Bilbo, Gandalf, and Legolas.

Here’s the official synopsis for the film:

“The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies” brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town. Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo’s frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide – unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in the epic Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-earth hangs in the balance.

The concluding chapter of The Hobbit trilogy,  The Battle of the Five Armies is set to be released on 17th December, 2014.

Meanwhile, the final episode of The Colbert Report will air on the next day, 18th December.
