Predestination: Final Preview

Posted by The Daily Zombies Tuesday, January 6, 2015

The ultimate time-traveling story famously conjured in a day by one of the greatest sci-fi writers ever, Robert A. Heinlein, is now a movie. Directed and written by brothers Michael and Peter Spierig, brace yourself for Predestination, All You Zombies!

Any self-respecting fans of sci-fi knew for a fact that the most best mindfuck in the genre is without a doubt a good ol' time-traveling tale. And when we called the 1958 short story, "—All You Zombies—" the ultimate time-traveling story, you know you are in for one hell of a mindfuck in the short story famously written by Robert A. Heinlein in a day: July 11, 1958. Featuring more than a few twists that we can't even dance around the plot in order to avoid spoilers, a film adaptation of the short is easily what many would have thought impossible.

Untill the Australian director duo, The Spierig Brothers, tried their hand. The directors behind the 2010 vampire feature film starring Ethan Hawke and William Dafoe, Michael and Peter Spierig took on the unenviable task of adapting "—All You Zombies—" with Hawke back to contribute in this new Australian sci-fi film that premiered at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas, last year. The word of mouth has been generally positive, with The Spierig Brothers praised on their dedication to stay faithful to the source material while actress Sarah Snook was singled out for her breakthrough performance.

We have read the original short and are equally curious how it can be adapted into a workable 90 minutes feature meant to entertain. Nevertheless, based on what we have witnessed thus far with the two trailers released, things does look good for this one.

Watch for it when it open stateside this weekend. In the meantime, check out those two trailers as well as the posters released for the film. And while you are at it, go read the real thing readily available online.

Here are the posters released thus far for the film.

Here's the official synopsis of the film.

In mid-’70s New York, a man in a fedora slips into an office building’s boiler room, carrying a mysterious briefcase. He uncovers a bomb, and is attacked while struggling to deactivate it. He succeeds — almost. Horribly disfigured, he’s transported to his agency’s headquarters where he receives a new face. He’s a temporal agent, traveling back and forth through time, altering history, and his assignment — thwart the mass murder perpetrated by the so-called ‘Fizzle Bomber’ — continues. New face, new place. Now he’s undercover as a bartender. He falls into conversation with a tough yet androgynous customer. There’s something off about the guy, who offers to enlighten the agent with ‘the best story you ever heard’.

Based on the Robert A. Heinlein short story '"—All You Zombies—", and starring Ethan Hawke, Sarah Snook and Noah Taylor, Predestination is currently scheduled for release on 9th January 2015.
