Jared Leto's Joker: First Look

Posted by The Daily Zombies

"And I thought my jokes were bad."

Get ready to lose all your shit with the unveiling of Jared Leto's Joker in next year's Suicide Squad, courtesy of director David Ayer.

Back in January, we covered Warner Bros. Pictures' incredibly ambitious announcement to roll out a stellar 11 films based on the iconic characters from DC Comics. Since then, we have to admit that we have not been particularly timely in covering one of the two DC films set to be released next year. Obviously, we are not talking about Zack Snyder's Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice here given how we excitedly covered the release of its first trailer. Indeed, the prospect of David Ayer's take on the first-ever supervillain film is no doubt intriguing but there have been more than a couple of media-whoring stunts from Jared Leto's tease reveals of his rendition of The Joker. From showing off his green hair to taking on a classic Joker pose, we have seen pretty enough... until now.

Ladies and gentlemen, prepare to lose all your shit with the unveiling of Jared Leto's Joker in next year's Suicide Squad, courtesy of director David Ayer's Twitter account in celebration of The Joker's 75th anniversary.

First and foremost, remember how the first image of Heath Ledger's legendary take on The Joker got all the flak back in 2007? The key lessons learnt here would be to not jump to conclusion and make imbecilic judgement. After all, this is just a teaser and we have to actually witness Leto's take to determine if this work. But with all that out of the way, I have to say that this is indeed an extreme take on the character with the tattoos fully informed of what the character is about.

Currently in production, Suicide Squad boasts an incredibly stacked cast with Will Smith as Deadshot, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flag, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jared Leto as The Joker. One of the two DC films releasing next year, Suicide Squad will be released on August 5, 2016.

Black Mass: First Look

Posted by The Daily Zombies

Johnny Depp has been Johnny Dillinger and Donnie Brasco. But in his latest film, brace yourself to look at what could be the darkest incarnations of Depp in Black Mass, the crime drama on real-life gangster Whitey Bulger.

Being big fans of numerous genres of the cinema, we here at The Daily Zombies are always happy to see some grim and gritty crime drama coming out of the pipeline, especially at this time and age of tentpole films.

In Black Mass, we got to check out Scott Cooper's take on the story of Whitey Bulger. Notorious crime boss turned FBI informant turned fugitive until he was caught until he was 81 years old. All courtesy of Johnny Depp, playing the titular role of the film based on the 2001 book Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob written by Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill.

Watch how Depp's Bulger go all dark and creepy over the subject of a revelation of a so-called "secret family recipe". The creepiest we have seen from Depp ever, and that's saying a lot.

Here's the first poster for the film.

Official images from the film.

And here's the official synopsis of the film.

In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Joel Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Johnny Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the true story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.

Set to be released on September 18th, Black Mass stars Johnny Depp, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Dakota Johnson, Juno Temple, and Jesse Plemons.

DC Super Hero Girls Announced

Posted by The Daily Zombies

DC Comics announced a girls-friendly initiative in collaboration with Mattel, Random House, Warner Bros. Animation, and Lego: Brace yourself for DC Super Hero Girls!

Here at The Daily Zombies, we are certainly not known for being a prominent feminist or anything alike though you can easily notice us standing up against outright sexist ideologies. So why are we so excited that DC Comics announced a girls-friendly initiative in collaboration with Mattel, Random House, and Lego. Well, for starters, because of a personal experience.

I had a  five-year-old niece who embraced all the superhero geek knowledge that I have imparted her and absolutely loved the Teen Titans cartoons and Batman and Superman and stuff. But when it come to the numero uno superheroine Wonder Woman, which she was also a fan of (mainly fascinated by the Invisible Jet), she told me that she don't want to be Wonder Woman because she wears panties for her superhero costume. An incredibly valid point from the gullible though thoroughly sharp observations of a five-year-old.

So here we are, in absolute peace and anticipation for the DC Super Hero Girls.

DC Comics' records for a female-friendly front have been spotty at best. But with the live-action adaptation of Wonder Woman set to be directed by a female director (last we checked, Patty Jenkins is on it), DC is making significant improvements in their efforts for a more balanced measure in reaching out to their fans. With the new initiative, DC will be collaborating with Mattel, Random House, Warner Bros. Animation, and Lego, which means that we will get to see the reimagination of female superheroes and villains in more forms than one, from toy merchandise, animated direct-to-videos films, Lego figures, and kid-friendly novels.

Check out details of the initiative via the official press release along with the official art image for the initiative right below:

A New Super Hero Universe Designed Just For Girls, Slated For Fall 2015

Mattel to Launch Company’s First Action Figures for Girls
Unprecedented Initiative to Include Digital Content, TV Specials, Made-For-Videos,
Publishing, Toys, Apparel and Other Products

Random House Children’s Books to be Master Publishing Partner
The LEGO Group to be Exclusive Construction Partner

Beginning in Fall 2015, DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation, Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Mattel join forces to launch DC Super Hero Girls, an exciting new universe of Super Heroic storytelling that helps build character and confidence, and empowers girls to discover their true potential.  Featuring DC Comics’ most powerful and diverse line-up of female characters as relatable teens, DC Super Hero Girls will play out across multiple entertainment content platforms and product categories to create an immersive world.

Developed for girls aged 6-12, DC Super Hero Girls centers on the female Super Heroes and Super-Villains of the DC Comics universe during their formative years—prior to discovering their full super power potential. Featuring a completely new artistic style and aesthetic, DC Comics’ icons such as Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Batgirl, Harley Quinn, Bumble Bee, Poison Ivy, Katana and many more make their unprecedented teenaged introduction. Each character has her own storyline that explores what teen life is like as a Super Hero, including discovering her unique abilities, nurturing her remarkable powers and mastering the fundamentals of being a hero.
“DC Entertainment is home to the most iconic and well-known Super Heroes including Wonder Woman, Supergirl and Batgirl,” said Diane Nelson, President of DC Entertainment. “DC Super Hero Girls represents the embodiment of our long-term strategy to harness the power of our diverse female characters.  I am so pleased that we are able to offer relatable and strong role models in a unique way, just for girls.”
The initial launch of DC Super Hero Girls in Fall 2015 will include an immersive digital experience, original digital content and digital publishing—providing opportunities for girls to interact with characters, learn about the storylines, and engage in customizable play.  TV specials, made-for-videos, toys, apparel, books and other product categories will begin to rollout in 2016.

“Developing a Super Hero franchise exclusively for girls that includes all of the key components of a comprehensive entertainment experience—from content to consumer products—is something we are excited to be doing in conjunction with our great partners,” said Brad Globe, President of Warner Bros. Consumer Products.   “It’s really an honor to be part of this cultural moment and to be delivering a concept so rooted in a relatable and empowered theme that the characters of DC Comics are uniquely able to present.”

As master toy licensee, Mattel is collaborating with DC Entertainment, Warner Bros. Animation and Warner Bros. Consumer Products on DC Super Hero Girls’ narrative creation, interactive digital activations and ultimately a toy line launching in 2016.  Mattel category-leading firsts include a line of characters for the action figure category, an area of the industry that has been primarily developed with boys in mind, and fashion dolls featuring strong, athletic bodies that stand on their own in heroic poses.

“Partnering with the best and being the best partner is of paramount importance,” said Richard Dickson, President, Chief Operating Officer, Mattel.  “Together with Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment, the DC Super Hero Girls franchise will further expand our already powerful girls portfolio. We know Super Hero is a culturally relevant theme and the DC Super Hero Girls franchise will engage and inspire girls, providing cues to explore heroic acts through play and into real life.”
The Random House Books for Young Readers imprint of Random House Children’s Books has been appointed the master publishing partner for the franchise and will be creating a portfolio of books that will bring the DC Super Hero Girls world to life, beginning in Spring 2016.  Random House’s publishing program will be complemented by a series of original graphic novels from DC Entertainment.  The LEGO Group will also be key to building the DC Super Hero Girls franchise, leveraging their experience and success engaging girls in creative construction play to bolster this universe through an array of LEGO® building sets designed to inspire girls' imaginations.  Additionally, consumer products partners around the world will be engaged in creating a merchandise line dedicated to DC Super Hero Girls across all key categories.

WATCH Amy Schumer's Football Town Lights

A parody of Friday Night Lights with an anti-rape message from Amy Schumer? Count us in all the way.

Echoing our views that we here at The Daily Zombies ain't no prominent feminist or anything alike when we covered DC Comics' new girls-friendly initiative in the announcement of DC Super Hero Girls, here we are with another inspiring note, albeit with a potential controversial notion.

In this awe-inspiring sketch from the third season premiere of Inside Amy Schumer, we got to check out one hell of a parody of Friday Night Lights with Schumer giving her best shot at Connie Britton's wine-drinking antics with Josh Charles charging the team with an uplifting anti-rape message with disastrous response. Of course, things got better later but you just got to check it out.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice - First Trailer

Posted by The Daily Zombies

"Tell me, do you bleed?"

"You will."

It's a Bird/Bat... It's a (Bat)Plane... It's the Dark Knight taking on the Man of Steel in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice! Warner Bros. Pictures boldly follow up on Disney's unveiling of the second teaser trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and give us our first real look of the much-anticipated film with the first teaser trailer.

In our well-documented coverage of Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice: We have had our First Look at Ben Affleck's Batman and his trusty Batmobile as well as Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman last year,  the unveiling of Jason Momoa's Aquaman early this year, just last month, we got a good look at Jesse Eisenberg's take on Lex Luthor. That's one hell of a lot of coverage but there is still one big bloody problem: We haven't even seen one actual glimpse of the film despite footage of it being unveiled at the last San Diego Comic-Con.

With Disney astounding the world with the release of the second teaser trailer of Star Wars: The Force Awakens just yesterday and Avengers: Age of Ultron hitting the theaters real soon, we were genuinely surprised that Warner Bros. Pictures still went ahead with the IMAX event of launching the first teaser trailer debut of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice next Monday (20th April 2015), And we are truly awe-struck when Warner Bros. Pictures actually decided to release the trailer one day after The Force Awakens, in response to the leak of an low-resolution version.

So here we are as we brace ourselves for our first ever actual look at the film featuring two of the genuine icons of comic industry. With no further ado, find out exactly how well-liked (or hated) Henry Cavill's Superman is in the wake of the cataclysmic events of Man of Steel, and how Ben Affleck's Batman just want ask one bloody question.

. And here comes our post-trailer analysis, along with screenshots of the trailer!

Okay, just to get this going, we have to address one thing. Yes, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer is better than this, in many ways, some nostalgic and some for its great pace. But the trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is still awesome in many, many ways.

Check out the image right below (click on it to view in hi-res).

Metropolis is pretty much well in its pace to rebuilt itself.

The voiceovers set up is pretty well-utilised here.We can certainly hear Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor's voice in there as the main narration of demonising the Man of Steel and many are chipping in to say that they hear Neil deGrasse Tyson, Charlie Rose, and Holly Hunter, who is apparently playing some government bigwigs.  Basically a party to trash Superman.

Superman, at the Day of the Dead?

A clever reveal of what many thought of Superman at this stage.

Is Superman getting himself a cult of followers already?

Based on the insignia at the shoulder, this is pretty creepy as it looks.

Heavy lifting.

Roscosmos on the rocket may be an indicator of the rumor of KGBeast's involvement.

And here's our first look at the full-fledged Bruce Wayne...

... looking longingly at his costume (with nose). All while Jeremy Irons provided an amazing voiceover as Alfred remarking how this is how it starts, with the fever, the rage, the feeling of powerlessness, that turns good men cruel.

Batman at the slums with Batmobile.

Drone attacks...

And Batmobile in action...

The Dark Knight emerging from the ruins and looking none the happier.

And this got me excited... a recreation of one of my favorite shots of Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins with Batman on top of a building looking over the cityscapes... Well, just because he is the Goddamn Batman.

And now we are at our final shot. The showdown between the World's Finest.

Indeed, the heavily armoured Batman is going to kick some Kryptonian's ass.

Batman asks and answers his own bloody question: "Tell me, do you bleed?"

"You will."

Roll the title screen.

A follow-up to Snyder's 2013 film Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice features returning stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, and Diane Lane reprising their roles in the first film, while including Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Jason Momoa as Aquaman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Jeremy Irons as Alfred, as well as Holly Hunter, Callan Mulvey, and Tao Okamoto. The film is set to release in theaters on 25th March 2016.

Ant-Man: New Trailer, Images & Concept Art

Posted by The Daily Zombies

We have yet another microscopic look at Marvel Studios' upcoming live-action take on Marvel Universe's tiniest superhero as Corey Stoll's Yellowjacket battles Paul Rudd's Ant-Man in the freshly-released trailer of Ant-Man.

Since our First Look at Ant-Man with the release of the first trailer of the concluding chapter of the remarkable Phase Two of Marvel Cinematic Universe back in January, we have not seen too much of the film directed by Peyton Reed with Paul Rudd in the titular role of the superhero with the power to shrink to the size of ant as well as communicate with them (yes, we mean ants). Perhaps this is a strategic move on Marvel Studios' part as they move toward the final gears of the marketing engine for their be-all, end-all Avengers: Age of Ultron. Though, we must remark that it is not as if Ant-Man is going to take away any of the spotlight from Joss Whedon's sequel to his box-office smashing Avengers. Quite the opposite in fact, if you can recall the somewhat underwhelming first trailer.

In reviewing the first trailer, we lament the unexpected sombre tone despite the incredible potential amount of consolidated charisma of charming personalities the likes of Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, and Evangeline Lilly. We also commented hoping the second trailer can remind us of the fun factor of the film. Well, here's our undead wish granted as Marvel Studios unleashes precisely that: A funnier, more entertaining second trailer. It is not exactly leaps and bounds better than the first, but we will take this for now, especially with the cool scenes featuring an all-out battle between fully-revealed Yellowjacket (played by Corey Stoll) and Rudd's Ant-Man.

Check out the trailer right below.

Here are some of the recently-unveiled new images from the film.

Concept art for the film.

And here's the official synopsis of the film.

The next evolution of the Marvel Cinematic Universe brings a founding member of The Avengers to the big screen for the first time with Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man. Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, master thief Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.

Marvel’s “Ant-Man” stars Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, Corey Stoll as Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket, Bobby Cannavale as Paxton, Michael Peña as Luis, Judy Greer as Maggie, Tip “Ti” Harris as Dave, David Dastmalchian as Kurt, Wood Harris as Gale, Jordi Mollà as Castillo and Michael Douglas as Hank Pym. Directed by Peyton Reed and produced by Kevin Feige, Marvel’s “Ant-Man” delivers a high-stakes, tension-filled adventure on July 17, 2015.

Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man is currently scheduled for release on 17th July 2015.
